Dawlish Warren update
As it turns out I managed to capture a big pile of poo yesterday – oh well, maybe another time!
All a bit quiet, but then a sudden shoot at Dawlish Warren
All has been quiet for a while, family duties have overruled hobbies! But today the sun was shining so me and the family went to the beach, with the camera in tow. Beautiful sunshine, clear blue skies – dammit I have no filters! With such strong light I was shooting with stupidly fast shutter speeds and couldn’t even see my LCD screen to see how the shots were coming out! As far as family day out it was great, from a photographer’s point of view it shows how having the right kit is essential. I’m gonna try and rescue some shots in PP, and then post them up………
Shopping list update
Ok, so again, my plans have changed a little!
Vert-grip is still on the cards.
Though my f/1.2 50mm lens is beautiful I want to get a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM as well as a Tamron SP 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 Di II
Oh, and I want Rodney’s new toy: Giottos 9361B Tripod with MH5001 Head
Spitchwick shoot
Today at Spitchwick was a nice little learning experience – don’t try and take photos in a summery river location A) in the summer and B) without a decent tripod! When I finally found a secluded spot I had to wade out with my (completely non-waterproof) camera and mini tripod to set up on the only flat rock I could find! The shots came out really well though especially because my wide-angle attempt was with a kit lens! And I also spotted some great locations for an early morning shoot – if I could get up that damn early! Shots are on flickr ——>>
aaaaaaah – dilema!
My lens lust has finally calmed down a lot, however it doesn’t mean I don’t still find the need to buy one – but at least it’s only one I want now. The trouble is do I get another prime lens to replace my old Pentax one, or keep rolling with that and get the wide-angle lens I want?! Which will be of more use to me, hmmmm, the Canon 50mm f/1.4 or the Tamron SP 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II????? Oooh, decisions, decisions!
More shoots planned (ish)
So after the confidence boost of Tuesday’s shoot, back up by some positive feedback from the DPS forum members, I should hopefully be having another shoot with Charlotte on Wednesday next week, and will hopefully be wandering down to Spitchwick for a few landscape shots, with the aim of capturing a few soft, ghostly river shots – maybe borrowing a wide-angle lens would be a good idea……..
My first portrait shoot – the Inlaws!
Well good old mother-in-law asked me to take some pics of the 3 girls, and with them being a very photogenic bunch I happily accepted. My trusty f/1.2 50mm prime was in it’s essence, but the poor light left me no option but to fire off the flash like a madman. This was an almighty learning curve – I really need to learn to use my flash properly! Thanks to a lot of PP I managed to rescue and finish off some really nice images – check out my Flickr feed ———>>
Long time away
Well due to moving house and having no internet, oh and then my laptop dying on me I’ve had to spend a few weeks technology free. And with work getting incredibly busy I haven’t even had much time for picture taking – what a sad, sorry life I lead! But now the lappy is fixed, I’m back online and the wee lady had her first birthday, so the camera came out in force. Mucho happyo – now to take me some more piccies!
